The Surrealist Revolution...

This week’s IxD OPEN Lecture:

The Surrealist Revolution & Salvador Dalí
Wednesday, 3.30pm, LTM-1

Presented by our visiting lecturer Mr Carlos Ruiz Brussain.

Surrealism was born as an alternative to the way reality was understood. In this lecture we’ll explore the antecedents, the origins and the consequences of the movement, as well as its most prominent, flamboyant and contradictory expositor: Salvador Dalí.

SPEAKER’S BIO

Carlos Ruiz Brussain was born in Montevideo, Uruguay.

He studied Fine Arts and Scenography in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he lived until 2001.

Then he moved to Europe, and he is currently living in Girona, Spain.

In 1998-1999 he designed the characters for the animated feature film “Condor Crux”.

In 2005 he collaborated to Oscar winner art director Eugenio Zanetti as a conceptual artist on the pre-production of the film “Trees of Fire”.

He’s been an art director and production designer of several short and advertisements films.

In 2006 he directed his first short film: “Dreams”, and in 2007 the short film “Happiness”, based on a story by Mercè Rodoreda.

His latest experimental film was called: “Dreams of a Bird Man”.

MORE ABOUT CARLOS

Carlos is very interested in the creative process itself and though he worked in very different styles through the years nowadays he’s working developing his own language working in two different lines, one related to abstract expressionism and the other to surrealism.

The first is a line inspired by chaos´ theory (randomness, fractals, unpredictability) and also by inner processes and searches. (http://www.carlosruizbrussain.com)

The second one takes surrealism as a starting point, trying to transform irrational thoughts and dreams into images.

As a hobby he directs the creative project “Sinestetics” that combines art, drawing, video and live music.

He teaches creativity at ERAM College and at the Graphic Design Post Degree of the University of Girona and drawing & illustration at the City Council School of Girona.

He has exhibited individually in Milan and Girona and collectively in Buenos Aires, Barcelona and Girona.

Reminder: Important YOG adjustments to the SIDM Academic Calendar this semester

Reminder: Important YOG adjustments to the SIDM Academic Calendar this semester:
Be sure you know when the holidays are this semester, as the Youth Olympic Games kicks off right before our Studio Projects.
